How To Bet On Boxing

Before you Bet On Boxing:

Let's get one thing straight before we start: if you want to bet on boxing to make big killings on wild, all-or-nothing boxing bets, this is not the web site for you. My system is based upon making money steadily over time through a continual accumulation of wins on small, carefully calculated wagers based on extensive research. Yes, there will be times when a win will be so sweet that you'll wish you had "bet the farm" on it. But you cannot allow that kind of thinking to override your determination to stay with a rational plan. When you bet on boxing, remember that slow and steady wins the race, and there will always be another opportunity.

Here's What to Expect

When you bet on boxing, you should not expect to win 100% of your bets not even close. Nor should you make recklessly large plays (over 10% of your bankroll) on a given fight simply because you view it as a sure thing or are trying to recover from a previous loss. Predicted boxing results can never be 100% guaranteed. What you can expect if you bet on boxing following my picks is to hit a simple majority over the long term, realistically around 55%.

How to KO the Risk

To maintain the discipline needed to bet on boxing and win consistently, I recommend that you do as I have done with my Hypothetical Betting Fund (See my Track Record). Set aside a fixed amount of cash that you can afford to bet on boxing and lose without affecting your way of life. After all, wagering is supposed to be fun – and hopefully profitable. But if you are in the habit of betting more than you can afford to lose, you should not be gambling at all, and should probably seek help for what might be an addiction.

Once you have determined your "bankroll," read my forecasts every week, and follow my Pick Rating System to decide how much to wager. You don't have to bet on every fight, but you should try, because when you spread small bets among several contests, you have a better chance of picking a long shot and coming out ahead, even though several of your bets may be losers. It's like diversification in the stock market: few responsible portfolio managers will put more than 5% of their funds into a single stock, regardless of how promising it may seem. And as you read my picks, you'll see that I rarely if ever risk more than 5% of my fund on any one fight.

Here's How to Get Started

TThe first thing you will need to do is to open one or more accounts with sports betting web sites that offer action on a variety of boxing events. Many sports books concentrate on the most popular sports only, and accept bets only on high-profile fights. Also, if you live in the United States, a number of betting sites will not accept wagers from U.S. citizens, but there are plenty of reputable sports books that will. Some of the betting sites that accept wagers on most of the fights I handicap are: sportsbook.com, thegreek.com, bet52.com, Bodog.com, 5dimes.com - and there are many others.

I have compiled a list of betting sites that offer boxing action. To download the list, click here. BoxingForecast.com has no connection or affiliation with these or any other gambling sites. If you are concerned about reliability, there is a site called sportsbookreview.com that offers reviews of sports betting sites, and offers a great deal of information about each site.

Each sports betting web site has it's own rules and terms of service, betting limits, methods and restrictions for depositing and withdrawing funds, etc. You should familiarize yourself with them before you sign up.

About Betting Odds

In my picks, I quote the betting lines posted by PinnacleSports.com, 5dimes.com, or The Greek.com because they are well known sports books, but BoxingForecast.com has no affiliation with these companies nor any other organization that accepts wagers. In fact, at this time, Pinnacle does not accept wagers from the United States.

There are virtually hundreds of Internet wagering sites as well as sports books in various cities, and boxing betting lines will vary from site to site – and even from day to day and moment to moment. It's your obligation to shop around for the best available lines for any particular fight. Check carefully that the boxing odds you are quoted is similar to the line I used in my forecast. Otherwise there may be a difference in the level of risk and potential return. BoxingForecast.com cannot be responsible for the actions of others, including the publishing of boxing betting lines. And of course you are personally responsible for obeying the laws of the jurisdiction in which you reside.

There are a number of sites, such as KO-Odds.com that compile and publish boxing odds from a variety of betting sites so you can compare the lines offered by each betting site for a particular fight.

The Final Word

To sum up, betting on boxing is never a sure thing, but I believe it is possible to make a consistent profit with relatively low risk by using my forecasts as a tool. If you are an undisciplined boxing bettor, then this service is not for you. However, if making money over the long term is more important to you than the "thrill" of gambling, then you are in the right place. Don't get me wrong, it's exciting to win, but it's so much better to know that even if you lose your wager, you can walk away with very little damage to your wallet, and that the long term results will be in your favor. The rational bettor should always ask himself this question; "What is the worst possible outcome I can expect with this bet?" If you can't live with your answer then you are probably risking too much money.

So you have decided how much to put in your wagering fund, you have opened one or more boxing betting accounts, and you are ready to roll. Now, if you are ready to take a patient, disciplined approach toward making money by betting on boxing, I'm ready to help.

Boxing Forecast News

September 5, 2010

We had a solid, overall winning weekend riding the wave of 2 underdog plays in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday.

Stephen Smith was able to nip tough John Simpson and brave 4-1 underdog Ricky Burns was able to shock Roman Martinez in a grueling see saw battle. Great win for Burns, copping the WBO super featherweight crown in the process.

New picks coming later in the week with an interesting schedule of bouts to review.

"I've never seen a more consistently successful tipster in any sport in all the time I have been betting. Most of them seem to promise a lot and never deliver or start out well and then go downhill rapidly. Your selections though just keep getting better every week.” - Peter H. - U.K.
"I have been betting on boxing for quite some time but I have completely stopped making picks myself, im a sucker for the favorites and have been getting much much better returns from your picks, its all about the longer term and anyone can see from your results that in the long run its been excellent.” - Mike L - U.K.

Antwone Smith scored a 9th round stoppage over previously undefeated Henry Crawford on Showtime Friday night at the First Council Casino, Newkirk, Oklahoma.
